Toronto 2015 rhythmic gymnastics qualification gave 16 individual places to 10 nations and group places to 5, all won at the 2014 Pan American Championships in Mississauga. The union's September 2014 list is three lines long, and it matches the final entries exactly: 46 gymnasts in all.

## The September 2014 list, line by line

The rhythmic list — headed, oddly, *Gimnasia Artística Rítmica* — names nations rather than counting places: those qualified with two gymnasts (USA, BRA, MEX, CAN, ARG, VEN), those with one (COL, ECU, CHI, CUB) and, *en conjunto*, the five groups (BRA, USA, MEX, CAN, CUB). Below, the same lines with their places.

**Rhythmic gymnastics, individual places for the 2015 Pan American Games, as listed in September 2014**

| # | Nation | Places | Basis |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | United States (USA) | 2 | Individual, top six nations |
| 2 | Brazil (BRA) | 2 | Individual, top six nations |
| 3 | Mexico (MEX) | 2 | Individual, top six nations |
| 4 | Canada (CAN) | 2 | Individual, top six nations |
| 5 | Argentina (ARG) | 2 | Individual, top six nations |
| 6 | Venezuela (VEN) | 2 | Individual, top six nations |
| 7 | Colombia (COL) | 1 | Individual, next four nations |
| 8 | Ecuador (ECU) | 1 | Individual, next four nations |
| 9 | Chile (CHI) | 1 | Individual, next four nations |
| 10 | Cuba (CUB) | 1 | Individual, next four nations |
| | Total | 16 | |

**Rhythmic gymnastics, group places (six gymnasts each), as listed in September 2014**

| # | Nation | Places | Basis |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | Brazil (BRA) | 6 | Group, top five (six gymnasts each) |
| 2 | United States (USA) | 6 | Group, top five (six gymnasts each) |
| 3 | Mexico (MEX) | 6 | Group, top five (six gymnasts each) |
| 4 | Canada (CAN) | 6 | Group, top five (six gymnasts each) |
| 5 | Cuba (CUB) | 6 | Group, top five (six gymnasts each) |
| | Total | 30 | |

## How the places were won

Under the Toronto 2015 rules, the top six nations in the individual competition in Mississauga took two places each; the last four individual places went, one each, to the next four nations that had not earned a place; and the top five groups qualified. A Pan American Games group is five gymnasts on the floor and a sixth as reserve, which is why five groups make 30 places.

| Event | Gold | Silver | Bronze |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Individual all-around | United States | United States | Brazil |
| Group all-around | Brazil | United States | Mexico |

No rhythmic place changed hands. Cuba is the only nation with one individual and a group.

## What the places produced in Toronto

**Rhythmic gymnastics podiums at the 2015 Pan American Games**

| Event | Gold | Silver | Bronze |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Individual all-around | United States | United States | Canada |
| Ball | United States | United States | Mexico |
| Clubs | United States | Canada | United States |
| Hoop | United States | United States | Brazil |
| Ribbon | United States | United States | Brazil |
| Group all-around | Brazil | United States | Cuba |
| Group, 5 ribbons | Brazil | United States | Canada |
| Group, 6 clubs + 2 hoops | United States | Brazil | Canada |

One gymnast from the United States won all five individual titles; Brazil won two of the three group events. Every rhythmic medal went to a nation with two individuals or a group in Toronto: Cuba's bronze came from its group, and none of the four gymnasts on single places — from Colombia, Ecuador, Chile and Cuba — reached an individual podium.
